Stereotypes mean a belief of a group of people that may or may not be true. Like judging someone when you dont know about there life.
AN EXAMPLE ON STEREOTYPES: Asians are good at math (that's not true)

HERE are my essays on the outsiders and the giver cx
THE OUTSIDERS ESSAY
An outsider is someone who does'nt belong or is treated differently. Many times there are feelings associated with being an outsider such as sad, lonely, and different. There are a variety of places that one could feel like an outsider such as at school, home, and in neighborhoods. Some of the reasons people are outsiders consist of how they speak, their face, how they dress, their appearance or their sexuality.
There are different kinds of outsiders such as people who choose to be an outsider and those who don’t choose. There are also insiders and border liners. I am an insider because I have never been bothered at school or been jumped. I feel like an insider at school because I feel that people join me in and are nice to me. The feelings I get when I’m being an insider are good, nice, and I feel comfortable with it. An insider is someone who cares about themselves and doesn’t care about what other people say.
Stereotype can cause someone to feel like an outsider. A stereotype is a belief of something that may or may not be true. An example of someone who has been stereotyped is my cousin. She has been stereotyped because she wears glasses. They think that just because she wears glasses she is the smarty, the nerd. Stereotype can cause emotional feelings.
Another example about stereotypes and not fitting in comes from the book , “The Outsiders”. Two characters from the book discuss strategies stereotypes. Ponyboy, a greaser believes, that the greases are the only ones with problems. He thinks that the socs have money they have opportunities. Cherry, a socs beliefs, that “things are rough all over.” Socs have their problems too.
Stereotype is also explored in C. Addichies Ted Talk called “a danger of a single story.” in this presentation she discusses how she stereotyped Fiddy. She stereotyped him by saying that he was poor he didn’t know how to do anything. She also stereotyped Mexico by saying that latinos/latinas were bad and migrant people.
Despite stereotypes, epiphanies challenge individuals to become better people. An epiphany is when you change personality and go to bad to good. An example of someone who had an epiphany is me. Me at one time I had low scores , very low scores. Later when I started getting upper grades I wanted to get better and better. So , I tried and never gave up.
Learning about outsiders stereotype and epiphanies has helped me know that its not good to do that. Its not good its not nice because it could hurt peoples feelings and maybe even death. Also, it could cause feelings that are really emotional.

There are many examples of text from our media that parallels the book The Giver. Some of these examples are articles about Edward Snowden, U.S incarceration rates, Arizona ban on books, and songs such as muse. All of these texts have strong evidence of how the giver society parallels our society.
The Edward Snowden article parallels the giver because Jonas didn’t obey the rules in his community. In paragraph two it says, “as an employee he was obligated to listen to his bosses even if he disagreed.” that line reminds me of jonas because of two reasons. Jonas didn’t listen to the giver about how he cant give memorys to anybody and that he is only the reciever. He gave some memories to Gabriel without permission. Also, Jonas disagrees with the community that there should be pain, love, books, color, and don’t have to drink pills to get smarter or to not feel love. He wants a community just like ours.
The article about incarcerating the population of the U.S parallels the giver because it explores control. A lot of news has been reported that our nation prison system is bloated of population. Yes, we are actually number one and that’s not good. Actually, it’s a good thing that we have good police and no other criminals. it’s a bad thing because that means that our state is very dangerous. It parallels the giver because it talks about how they are not free. Incarcerated people are not free. They are stuck inside a cage for years. This parallels the giver because jonas community is a place were there is no pain or war or fear. There is just one problem and its that they are stuck forever in that community forever, cant get in or cant get out again.
The article about Arizona banned books parallel the giver because of jonas community. In jonas community there are no books at all. They don’t even have school and have to eat drugs in their food to get smart. In Arizona they are taking away all the books a chicano or chicana wrote. It is both the same because it is taking away all of the books that maybe someone wants to read or like jonas. He wants to get smart and do stuff we can do but not his community.
It parallels the giver because on the song muse-uprising it says on a line that “ they will not control us”. that line parallels the giver because jonas and other kids when born were separated from their real families. Another example is about drugs. On the song it says , “they will try to push us drugs that keep us all dumbed down”. it parallels the giver by talking about the medicine the community chief elder puts on their food to get smart since they don’t have school, books, teachers, and other stuff our community has.
There are many examples about how articles, quotes, pictures, and videos parallel the giver. All of these options have a lot of strong evidence. Most of the evidence I used was from articles. In the articles I read there was a lot of good strong evidence that paralleled the givers society to our society.
